Actions Speak Louder Than Words
This is part of our Playful Proverbs series, in which we weave tales around well-used sayings, teaching kids what they mean, and what wisdom we can learn from them. 🌟✨
A Fun Competition! 🐦⚖️
A Stork and a Sparrow had taken a bet to see who could build the best nest. “The nests that I make,” said the Stork with a laugh, “are better than all of the rest.”
Everyone says that the walls that I make are wonderfully sturdy and thick.” The Sparrow just quietly flew to and fro, returning with branches and sticks.
The Challenge Begins! 🏗️🏆
The Stork gave a snigger and said to the Sparrow, “Pathetic! Your nest will be weak.” “We’ll see,” said the Sparrow, and flew like an arrow, returning with twigs in her beak.
“All of the birds,” said the Stork with a grin, “declare that I have the most skill. They say I'm the greatest,” he said with a laugh and boastfully clattered his bill.
Hard Work Pays Off! 💪🪺
“There’s no point in trying. There’s no point in flying; my nest will be better than yours.” The Sparrow just tweeted and flew to the ground and gathered some leaves in her claws.
She worked without stopping to pick up more twigs; she flew like the busiest bee. Once the small Sparrow had gathered enough, she found a good spot in a tree.
The Test of Strength! 🔍🦩
The Stork realized that the time had now come; he swooped from his branch to the ground. He rustled about in the leaves with his bill and gathered whatever he found.
“Good,” the Stork muttered and hastily fluttered to toss all the twigs in a pile. The Sparrow had finally finished her work and looked at the Stork with a smile.
The Moment of Truth! 🎉😲
“Now I am done,” said the Stork with a squawk, and proudly he puffed out his chest. “I have completed my wonderful nest and now I will give it a test.”
Grinning with pride, the big bird stepped inside, delighted with his work of art. The wood started cracking, the twigs started snapping, and everything tumbled apart!
A Lesson Learned! 📚💔
The Stork tumbled down, and he fell to the ground. His body was battered and sore. It seems all along that his boasting was wrong! He wasn’t so proud anymore!
“You win,” the Stork sighed to the Sparrow and said, “I failed this miserable test. I have to admit that by just working hard, the nest that you made was the best.”
What We Learned! 💡✨
So, what is the lesson from this little tale? What have we learned from these birds? It’s not what you say; it’s about what you do - actions speak louder than words!
